What if 'living for art' stands in the way of life?
Scarlet Tummers, Carly Wijs, and Eurudike De Beul star in Herfstsonate: a conversation between a mother and daughter, a search for recognition and love.
Two actors and a singer immerse themselves in Herfstsonate, a gem of European film history by the acclaimed director Ingmar Bergman from 1978.
The trio delves into the depths of the mother-daughter relationship and probes the core: how are we shaped? What wounds sometimes accompany this? And what does it take for us to achieve autonomy? Occasionally, their personal relationships shine through: Carly and Eurudike were once Scarlet's teachers at drama school and helped shape her into the performer she is today.
How far does an artist go in their dedication to art, and what can – or must – be sacrificed? A quest for the true self, portrayed to the tones of the sonata.
