AFFR is back at the Schouwburg for the festival's Opening Night, with the European premiere of a film about speculation, housing shortage, redevelopment and an elderly lady who fights back. The setting is Toronto, the story is just as relevant to Rotterdam - and has a Dutch twist.
AFFR - the largest film festival about architecture and the city - returns between 9 - 15 October, with five days of films about the one thing that touches everyone’s life: the man-made world we live in.
For its 2024 edition, the festival is once again presenting a broad selection of films and documentaries, from architect’s portraits to cult classics, from shorts on city life to documentaries about wider social issues. Films at AFFR deal with topics that touch everyone’s life: the housing crisis, tourism, migration, climate change - the entire man-made world. In the process, the festival shows unfamiliar angles and stories, offering new perspectives.
After 15 festivals, AFFR has grown to become the world’s biggest film festival about the city and architecture. This year’s event takes place at the Schouwburg and LantarenVenster – and at various venues in Rotterdam and elsewhere throughout the year.
