The Artist Talks during Feeling Curious? offer a series of conversations with various creators and the audience. We invite you to dive deeper into the performances and explore the themes and the context from an insider's perspective. 

Prior to the performance This is not an Embassy (Made in Taiwan) on the 29th of September you are welcomed to join expert Casper Wits and artist Linhuei Chen on a dialogue about the relationship between The Netherlands and Taiwan. Topics like the colonial history between The Netherlands and Taiwan will be discussed, just as the current diplomatic relations. 

This year marks exactly 400 years since The Netherlands colonized parts of Taiwan, making it a very important time to bring this piece to our theatre and to talk about the history. By doing so, we highlight Taiwan’s story for a deeper understanding of its position.  

Bio Casper Wits
Casper Wits is a Lecturer in the Institute for Area Studies at Leiden University. He is specialized in diplomatic and international history in East Asia. He also takes an interest in contemporary EU policy towards the East Asian region. Wits is a proponent of Taiwan taking place in the (VN/UN) again, and aims for The Netherlands to support this. 

Bio Linhuei Chen
Linhuei Chen is a Taiwanese Dutch artist based in Rotterdam. Her work investigates how migration impacts transcultural individuals’ notions of home and cultural hybridity within the discourse of transculturalism. She explores this topic through personal experiences and collective ideas on migration, Dutch colonisation in Taiwan and cultural hybridity, providing perspectives between East Asia and Europe. Her wrok is on display during the festival for our expo series TRaces.

De Artist Talks tijdens Feeling Curious? bieden een reeks gesprekken met verschillende makers en het publiek. We nodigen je uit om dieper in te gaan op de voorstellingen en de thema's en context vanuit een insiderperspectief te verkennen. 

Voorafgaand aan de voorstelling This is not an Embassy (Made in Taiwan) op 29 september ben je van harte welkom om deel te nemen aan een dialoog met expert Casper Wits en kunstenaar Linhuei Chen over de relatie tussen Nederland en Taiwan. Onderwerpen zoals de koloniale geschiedenis tussen Nederland en Taiwan zullen worden besproken, evenals de huidige diplomatieke betrekkingen. 

Dit jaar is het precies 400 jaar geleden dat Nederland delen van Taiwan koloniseerde, wat dit een belangrijk moment maakt om dit stuk naar ons theater te brengen en de geschiedenis te bespreken. Op deze manier belichten we het verhaal van Taiwan voor een dieper begrip van zijn positie. 

Bio Casper Wits
Casper Wits is docent aan het Institute for Area Studies van de Universiteit Leiden. Hij is gespecialiseerd in diplomatieke en internationale geschiedenis in Oost-Azië. Ook heeft hij interesse in het hedendaagse EU-beleid ten aanzien van de Oost-Aziatische regio. Wits is voorstander van de terugkeer van Taiwan in de VN en streeft ernaar dat Nederland dit ondersteunt. 

Bio Linhuei Chen
Linhuei Chen is een Taiwanees-Nederlandse kunstenaar, gevestigd in Rotterdam. Haar werk onderzoekt hoe migratie de ideeën van transculturele individuen over thuis en culturele hybriditeit beïnvloedt binnen het discours van transculturalisme. Ze verkent dit thema door middel van persoonlijke ervaringen en collectieve ideeën over migratie, de Nederlandse kolonisatie van Taiwan en culturele hybriditeit, en biedt daarmee perspectieven tussen Oost-Azië en Europa. Haar werk is tijdens het festival te zien in de expo serie TRaces.
