The Artist Talks during Feeling Curious? offer a series of conversations with various creators We invite you to dive deeper into the performances and explore the themes and the context from the creator’s perspective.
In her piece Whitewashing, Rebécca Chaillon takes a step in redefining the concept of “whitewashing”. During her performance she explores the relationships between social expectations, racial identity and self-care for black women.
After the piece, the two performers Rébecca Chaillon and Aurore Déon will share their perspective on the concept of whitewashing, the conversation will be led by Adiam Tseggai. The performers will share their experiences on whitewashing in their daily lives and the cultural sector, because it’s typically associated with white actors casted in roles of non-white characters.
Bio Adiam Tseggai
Adiam Tseggai is an entrepreneur with a strong passion for culture and music. She is the creator of Femme for Change, and hostess of The Female Frequency podcast and by doing so she supports women to strengthen their power. She hosts programs through Rotterdam, driven by her passion and broad cultural knowledge.
De Artist Talks tijdens Feeling Curious? bieden een reeks gesprekken met verschillende makers. We nodigen je uit om dieper in te gaan op de voorstellingen en de thema's en context vanuit het perspectief van de maker.
In haar stuk Whitewashing zet Rébécca Chaillon een stap in het herdefiniëren van het concept "whitewashing". Tijdens haar performance onderzoekt ze de relaties tussen sociale verwachtingen, raciale identiteit en zelfzorg voor zwarte vrouwen.
Na de voorstelling zullen de twee performers, Rébecca Chaillon en Aurore Déon, hun perspectief delen op het concept van whitewashing. Het gesprek wordt geleid door Adiam Tseggai. De performers zullen hun ervaringen delen over whitewashing in hun dagelijks leven en in de culturele sector, omdat het vaak wordt geassocieerd met witte acteurs die gecast worden voor rollen van niet-witte personages.

Adiam Tseggai is een ondernemer met een sterke passie voor cultuur en muziek. Ze is de oprichter van Femme for Change en de host van de Female Frequency podcast, waarmee ze vrouwen ondersteunt om hun kracht te versterken. Ze presenteert programma's door heel Rotterdam, gedreven door haar passie en brede culturele kennis.
