Four Rotterdam boys connect through music and creativity as they wander through life

In Pleasant Hell volgen we vier Rotterdamse jongens die elkaar vinden in muziek en creativiteit, terwijl ze dwalen door een leven dat ze ervaren als een aangename hel. Zonder het één bestaat het ander niet; zonder verdriet geen geluk. Samen proberen ze het grote ondraaglijke bestaan te doorstaan.

De filmmaker
Suzanne Koopstra probeert de mensen om haar heen te begrijpen door hen te portretteren in haar films, wat leidt tot surrealistische en intens persoonlijke beelden. Haar fascinatie voor het alledaagse vormt de basis voor haar visuele vertelstijl in commercials en documentaires. De korte film Pleasant Hell, haar regiedebuut, werd geselecteerd voor het IFFR.

In Pleasant Hell we follow four Rotterdam boys who connect through music and creativity as they wander through a life that they experience as a pleasant hell. Without one, there is no other; without sorrow, no happiness. Together, we strive to endure the great unbearable existence.

The filmmaker
Suzanne Koopstra tries to understand the people around her by portraying them within her films, leading to surrealistic and intensely personal imagery. Her fascination for everyday life informs her visual storytelling when creating commercials and documentaries. The short film Pleasant Hell, her directorial debut, has been selected for IFFR.
