The Unknowns:
An exploration beyond
the mysteries of fungi world;
The intimacy of strangers;
All the universe;
A shape-shift between
every manifestation of nature
and all living things…
We approach a new edition of our artist - in - residence program Welcome To Our Guesthouse. During this 6th edition, with the overarching theme The Unknowns: An exploration beyond the mysteries of the fungi world, we will attempt to discover - yet unknown - alternative ways for understanding our planet as a shared space for fungi, microbes, humans and all other living beings.
With invited artists, scientists, designers and TR crew, we dive into a collective process of examining the natural phenomenon fungi and it’s mysterious eco-social life to tell us about learning, problem-solving, inter-dependency, creativity, wisdom, intimacy, intelligence and consciousness. What is the function of the wood wide web? Why do fungi help the wood wide web to communicate? Or share resources? Are fungi-based new technology and artificial intelligence the future? And what about our soul? Our desires, intimacy or sexuality? Or is the core of human existence just a coincidence in this universe?
From this starting point, and for the whole month of October 2022, we dedicate our house entirely to makers and their communities who think across borders, both geographically and artistically. The invited makers are Noor Stenfert Kroese, Melyn Chow, Younes van den Broeck aka. Spitler and David Joao aka. Ramos Sama. It's also an invitation to the public to get acquainted with the careful and inspiring processes of artists who value social engagement. You're welcome to join our TRACK and let’s discover the unknowns together!
Pay what you can
In an era of growing social inequalitites, we attempt to make the ticket prices as accessible as possible for each and every artist, cultural worker, spectator or fellow citizen.
It’s up to you to determine whether that ticket price fits your current financial situation. If a lower rate would make it easier for you to come to join us, you are free to select that rate. Can you pay a higher ticket price? Then you make it possible for others to pay less. Thank you for your solidarity and we look forward to welcome you!
About Welcome To Our Guesthouse
Welcome To Our Guesthouse is the beating heart of Productiehuis Theater Rotterdam. With our artist - in - residence program, Productiehuis Theater Rotterdam creates a temporary living and working space for a new generation theatre makers and their communities in the city of Rotterdam. The collaboration with the makers gives Productiehuis Theater Rotterdam the opportunity to re-examine its function as the research and development department: What do makers need to feel at home at Theater Rotterdam? What are their needs in research and work? And how can Productiehuis Theater Rotterdam best facilitate the exchange of ideas? On the other hand, this collaboration is the ideal opportunity for an organisation to get to know a new generation of makers. By doing so, we activate ourselves, the makers, our partners and the audience to construct our future from the present: careful, sustainable, radical, translocal and socially engaged!
TRACK: Welcome To Our Guesthouse by Productiehuis Theater Rotterdam is a result of a fruitful collaboration with Creative Robotics Lab, KUKA, Mushroom Research Center Austria and made possible by Municipality of the City of Rotterdam.
