Khadija El Kharraz Alami

“My work stems from my love for professional craftsmanship. I question the current theatre conventions both on stage as well as behind the scenes.”

Khadija is a brave, independent-thinking maker who is not afraid to break taboos. Even if only due to the journey she has already made. Khadija mainly works from a personal source of inspiration: she is inspired by events, relationships and people in her own life. In her work, she studies how people embark on the unknown to find both themselves, as well as love and loneliness.

Biography

Khadija El Kharraz Alami (1987, Amsterdam) is an actress, theatre maker and performance artist. She also works as a dramatist, co-researcher and director. In 2014 she graduated from the HKU University of the Arts Utrecht, when she became an actress at theatre companies including HNT, NNT, Thalia Theater, Theatre Nationale de Strasbourg and Grande Loge. At the same time, she set up her own creative practice working in both Belgium and the Netherlands from 2015 onwards.

Inspired by Angela Davis, her work is an attempt to construct the liberating human being. She focuses on the importance of research, education, experimenting and craftsmanship in society in her creative practice. She makes a proposal for the future with her performance art by creating worlds, movements and archetypes in the here and now. And by shining light on voices, individuals and communities that would otherwise be forgotten. This is how she shows people looking for their identity who failingly succeed.
