Our makers

From new makers to established names. Our makers cover the full breadth of the performing arts: from drama to dance, from physical theatre and performance to storytelling and community art. From the small and large auditorium to the neighbourhood. We proudly present: the makers of Theater Rotterdam.

TR maker community

Theater Rotterdam wholeheartedly opts for a large, diverse community of makers. They make non-conformist, often interdisciplinary theatre, in which the unspoken rules of theatre-making are challenged. Their commitment to contemporary social issues is palpable in work that varies in signature.

Alida Dors
"I want to broaden the artistic status quo in theatre with new traditions."
Erik Whien
"Theatre is not an extra, it is a necessity of life. Theatre provides footing in a world that is nevertheless a chaotic jumble of states."
Dalton Jansen
"I think it is important to create brave spaces, where someone feels at home and is allowed to be there."
Grande Loge
"Stories, tories and pokoes with sauce."
Khadija El Kharraz Alami
"From my love of craft, I question current theatre conventions, both in front of and behind the scenes."
Mathieu Wijdeven
"I don't want to be a servant as an artist, but to tell stories that maybe not everyone wants to hear."
Nastaran     Razawi Khorasani
"How can I literally and figuratively share my stage with people who don't have access to it?"
Romana Vrede
"I make art because I want change. Once I sink my teeth into something, I don't let go."
Wunderbaum
"Our performances are attempts to bring people from different camps together and create a sense of community."

New makers

We research, produce and innovate with a broad palette of new makers. They deal with current themes such as decolonisation, radicalisation, community building, new rituals and activism. In this way, we are committed to innovation in the performing arts in the broadest sense of the word.
