Openingstrack: Timo Tembuyser en Hélène Vrijdag
HICCUP werd in een residentie bij Productiehuis Theater Rotterdam ontwikkeld tijdens Welcome To Our Guesthouse 2019 en gaat over mannen- en vrouwenrollen, zoals die worden overgeleverd en vastgelegd in mythes en ander repertoire.
Hélène Vrijdag (1996, FR) studeerde in 2020 af aan de Performance-opleiding op de Toneelacademie Maastricht. Haar werk centreert zich rondom overdonderende verstilling: alle mogelijke manieren om het begrip stilte groots te belichamen als performer. Dit doet ze juist door altijd te vertrekken vanuit stem, geluid en muzikaliteit. Terugkerende thema’s in haar werk zijn de vrouw, de mythe en het onaantastbare.
Timo Tembuyser (1991, BE) is performer, zanger en componist. Hij studeerde in juni 2019 af aan de Performance-opleiding van de Toneelacademie in Maastricht en schoolde zich als zanger bij Codarts Rotterdam. Daarvoor studeerde Timo in België: hij rondde in 2014 de masteropleiding Architectuur en Stadsontwerp af aan de Universiteit Gent. Als zanger poogt hij de ogenschijnlijk onoverbrugbare werelden van zangtechniek en stembevrijding met elkaar te verbinden. Ook als performer beweegt hij zich graag van de ene naar de andere vorm in het muziektheaterlandschap: van koorconcert naar bewegingsvoorstelling, van musical tot geluidsinstallatie.
Timo en Hélène leerden elkaar kennen op de Toneelacademie Maastricht. HICCUP, een voorstelling gemaakt in het kader van Welcome To Our Guesthouse bij Productiehuis Rotterdam, was hun eerste project als makersduo dat ook al in het Peepshow Palace en tijdens Winternights te zien was.
Ze vinden elkaar als maker en mens in hetzelfde grote verlangen naar gelijkwaardigheid en harmonie: tussen mensen, tussen man en vrouw, tussen compositie en vrijheid. Met de stem als oerinstrument, zoeken ze naar de meest directe, eerlijke, vrije verklanking van de mens. Met elkaar als spiegel, zoeken ze naar de betekenis van menselijke dualiteit in een moderne samenleving.

De Openingstrack, gecureerd door Alida Dors, is onderdeel van ACT: Art, Climate, Transition, een Europees samenwerkingsproject rond ecologie, klimaatverandering en sociale transitie. In een tijd van klimaatdegradatie, pandemieën, massale uitsterving en toenemende ongelijkheid bundelen we onze krachten in een project over hoop, waarbij we brede perspectieven verbinden met specifieke, gelokaliseerde mogelijkheden die we uitnodigen of eisen.

Hélène Vrijdag (1996, FR) graduated in 2020 from the Performance department at the Maastricht Theater Academy. Her work centers around overwhelming stillness: all possible ways to embody the concept of silence as a performer. She does this precisely by always starting from voice, sound and musicality. Recurring themes in her work are women, myth and the untouchable.
Timo Tembuyser (1991, BE) is a performer, singer and composer. He graduated in June 2019 from the Performance department of the Toneelacademie in Maastricht and trained as a singer at Codarts Rotterdam. Before that, Timo studied in Belgium: he completed the master's degree in Architecture and Urban Design at Ghent University in 2014. As a singer he tries to connect the seemingly unbridgeable worlds of singing technique and voice liberation. Also as a performer he likes to move from one form to another in the music theater landscape: from choral concert to movement performance, from musical to sound installation.
Timo and Hélène got to know each other at the Maastricht Theater Academy. HICCUP, a performance made as part of Welcome To Our Guesthouse at Productiehuis Theater Rotterdam, was their first project as a makers-duo that was also shown at the Peepshow Palace and during Winter-nights.
They find each other as maker and human being in the same great desire for equality and harmony: between people, between man and woman, between composition and freedom. With the voice as a primal instrument, they search for the most direct, honest, free expression of a person. With each other as a mirror, they search for the meaning of human duality in a modern society.
