Djuwa Mroivili
Djuwa Mroivili is a beacon of authenticity in the world of classical music. During Welcome To Our Guesthouse #7 Djuwa researches how she can challenge the traditional (cis, hetero, Eurocentric) norms and dominant hier archies in the classical music tradition, embracing an authentic narrative.
In I Vow To Distract Forever Djuwa promises that she will always be her most authentic self as a performer, even if she is considered to be ‘distractive’ from a classical perspective. She wants to break through the classical hierarchies between composer, musician and instrument and aims for equally pleasurable experiences for all involved parties, where there is space for experiment, strength and softness. Djuwa has been breaking barriers and challenging the status quo. She occasionally graces classical music concert halls with traditional performances such as her collaboration with double bass player James Oesi. Both share a love for Black composers within the classical realm.
Her upcoming album with Oesi is a testament to this exploration. Djuwa’s own work is characterised by a blend of classical music, theatre, and beauty. Creating experiences that resonate with a sense of belonging and acknowledgment. Through her art she offers healing experiences by presenting new perspectives on societal issues using vulnerability as her superpower.
