Charles Pas
In the mime solo Victory Boogie Woogie, Charles Pas places himself in a dystopian in-between space to explore what it means when you have to continually harness yourself. As a lost young man, he battles the mundane in an attempt to tame it and look for all that lies behind . What does it mean when you can't find a connection, upheaval takes over, but you find no other choice than to keep going?
In this performance, where the strength lies in the minimal use of theatrical means, Charles engages in battle with a completely live performed soundscape of everyday environmental sounds combined with the grandeur of cinematic sound design and film composition. In this experiment, sound and movement play each other off like wild jazz improvisation, and it's anyone's guess who's actually in control.
Victory Boogie Woogie is about running after the facts. A physical poem of body and sound about the continuous, merciless confrontation with self-destruction. Are we doomed to this escape from ourselves or are we still salvageable?
