Ma’MaQueen
Seven years ago, filmmaker Esmée van Loon observed the life of young drag queen Ma’MaQueen / Venus Bijleveld. In her creative process, she does not shy away from sensitive topics. Vulnerable and open, Venus shares how it feels to live in a society where everyone still thinks and lives in boxes. The film thereby captures the fears and desires of a non-binary trans feminine individual.
Ma’MaQueen was selected for the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) and Shortcutz Amsterdam in 2018, winning Best Film at the Rotterdams Open Doek in 2017. The documentary was broadcast by 2DOC in 2019.
