SOLO is een muziekfilm van artiest SUBFICTION, regisseur Vincent Boy Kars en choreograaf Dalton Jansen. De film toont twee huisgenoten uit Rotterdam die samenleven, maar volledig uit sync zijn. Wanneer ze beginnen te dansen op de pulserende score, kunnen ze eindelijk ontsnappen aan hun vermoeiende dagelijkse routine.

Dit project is een coproductie tussen Narrative Identity Records en mint2. Narrative Identity Records is een Rotterdams label gespecialiseerd in soundtracks en verhalende muziek, een samenwerking tussen filmmaker Vincent Boy Kars en componist Beau Zwart. SOLO ging in première op het International Film Festival Rotterdam 2023.

De maker

Sinds zijn afstuderen aan de AKV St. Joost Academie in 2015, heeft Vincent Boy Kars (1990, Nederland) naam gemaakt als documentairemaker die identiteit, zelfbeeld en seksualiteit onderzoekt. Vaak doet hij dit binnen de context van het digitale tijdperk. Kars speelt met het documentaireformat door de grenzen tussen fictie en realiteit te verkennen. Hij maakte drie hybride speelfilms: Independent Boy (2017), Drama Girl (2020) en Future Me (2024).

SOLO is a music film by artist SUBFICTION, director Vincent Boy Kars, and choreographer Dalton Jansen. It portrays two Rotterdam roommates who live together but are completely out of sync. As they begin to dance to the pulsating score, they finally escape their draining daily routine.

The project is a co-production between Narrative Identity Records and mint2. Narrative Identity Records is a Rotterdam-based label specializing in soundtracks and narrative-driven music, a collaboration between filmmaker Vincent Boy Kars and composer Beau Zwart. SOLO premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam 2023.

The filmmaker

Since graduating from AKV St. Joost Academy in 2015, Vincent Boy Kars (1990, Netherlands) has made a name for himself as a documentary filmmaker exploring identity, self-image, and sexuality, often within the context of the digital age. Kars plays with the documentary format, flirting with the boundaries between fiction and reality. He has made three hybrid feature films: Independent Boy (2017), Drama Girl (2020), and Future Me (2024).
