Art is not only visible in our halls but also outside, on the steps, in the lobby, and on the square; art is everywhere here. As an interdisciplinary house, we not only provide space for performing arts but also bring various disciplines together in our lobby for encounters between worlds and works.

During the free expo program TRaces, we invite Rotterdam artists, from emerging to established, to use our building as a stage for ongoing exhibitions of interdisciplinary work that connect with the city of Rotterdam and its residents. The lobby is the exhibition space where these invited Rotterdam artists leave their mark! Is Theater Rotterdam open? Then you can always drop in during the expo period. For the Feeling Curious?-edition of TRaces we welcome Shertise Solano.

Shertise Solano

Shertise Solano (Rotterdam, 1982) is a multidisciplinary artist of Antillean descent, who grew up in Rotterdam Delfshaven. Her work is distinguished by the creation of a magical universe that transcends everyday reality.

What sets Solano apart from many other artists is her ability to translate personal experiences into a completely unique visual language. She combines media such as collages, stop-motion films, and objects, often creating animal-like figures where human and beast merge into a personal mythology. This makes her work raw, energetic, and mystical.

From September 25 to November 15, Solano’s film Not I will be shown, with cinematography by Mark Brants. The film is accompanied by the music of Sun Ra's Somebody Else’s Idea, where the lyrics play a central role. Additionally, Solano will exhibit a free-hanging collage in the form of a black figure with wings.

De expo is gratis te bezoeken tijdens de openingstijden van TR

Kunst is niet alleen zichtbaar in onze zalen, maar ook buiten, op de trappen, in de hal en op het plein; kunst is hier overal. Als interdisciplinair huis bieden we niet alleen ruimte aan podiumkunsten, maar brengen we ook verschillende disciplines samen in onze hal voor ontmoetingen tussen werelden en werken.

Tijdens het gratis expo-programma TRaces nodigen we Rotterdamse kunstenaars, van opkomend tot gevestigd, uit om ons gebouw te gebruiken als podium voor doorlopende tentoonstellingen van interdisciplinair werk dat verbinding maakt met de stad Rotterdam en haar inwoners. De hal is de tentoonstellingsruimte waar deze uitgenodigde Rotterdamse kunstenaars hun sporen achterlaten! Is Theater Rotterdam open? Dan kun je altijd binnenlopen tijdens de expo-periode. Voor de Feeling Curious?-editie van TRaces verwelkomen we Shertise Solano.

Shertise Solano (Rotterdam, 1982) is een multidisciplinaire kunstenaar van Antilliaanse afkomst, die opgroeide in Rotterdam Delfshaven. Haar werk onderscheidt zich door het scheppen van een magisch universum dat voorbij de alledaagse werkelijkheid reikt.

Wat Solano onderscheidt van veel andere kunstenaars, is haar vermogen om persoonlijke ervaringen te vertalen in een geheel eigen beeldtaal. Ze combineert media zoals collages, stop-motion films en objecten, waarbij ze vaak dierlijke figuren creëert waarin mens en beest samensmelten tot een persoonlijke mythologie. Dit maakt haar werk rauw, energiek en mystiek.

Van 25 september t/m 15 november wordt Solano’s film Not I vertoond, met camera werk door Mark Brants. Begeleid hoor je de muziek van Sun Ra's Somebody Else’s Idea. In dit werk staat de tekst van de muziek centraal. Daarnaast exposeert Solano een vrijhangende collage in de vorm van een zwart figuur met vleugels.
