After participating in ‘One Night’s Dance’, Shaquille George returns as a creator at dansateliers to further develop his previous solo phoenix into a new performance: Phantom Harmony.
Phantom Harmony is the tale of my journey on how I struggled with my mental health and the importance on using my artistic point of view to convey this story. In the hopes to start a dialogue or to even have small window, where people might take a second to reflect on themselves and others around them that could potentially be struggling with said topic.
I feel as though society tend to avoid discussion that make us feel uneasy or uncomfortable. We might not even acknowledge it or even fully disregard its importance.
My aim with my practice “Emotive Flux”, I try to develop concepts that tend to be unspoken, but that are also of importance to me as an individual. That I feel is way to contribute to the grander scheme of things, which is important to the ebb & flow of life.
Shaquille George
Shaquille George was born and raised in Curaçao and moved to the Netherlands when he was 18 years old. He started with teaching himself movement of urban origins. After that Shaquille got his degree at Fontys Fine Arts School as an urban contemporary dancer.
After working with various companies and choreographers, he used this as an opportunity to create his own movement language. He focuses on what is called (E)motion ‘Energy in Motion’. He creates by using layers of emotion and topics that he feels that needs to be discussed or explored hoping that this opens a space to have a dialogue.
